We are launching The Bijou Press in May 2022. Our space is open for artists who need a space to do their art that would not get them tangled up in unaffordable rent pricing. While we are focusing on printing and drawing workshops, our doors are open to amazing and limitless workshops for all art forms and mediums.
Watch this space and our social media for updated information about the events and workshops we will be hosting.
The Bijou Theatre in Observatory is one of the few remaining art deco cinemas. This is another magnificent example of William Hood GRANT’s architectural design and was opened as a cinema in 1941. It ceased being operational as a cinema before the 1995 explosion and fire which ravaged much of the building. At the time it was used as a plastics factory and is currently home to a blacksmith, coffee shop and art and photography studios. The building is graded as 3A by Local Heritage.
